In Module 6 we discussed the librarian's role as a curator of resources for their patrons. One of the most important skills that I must continually hone is my ability to curate resources for my teachers and students. Whether it is a collection of digital resources to support a social studies standard or a makerspace to give students the chance for inquiry and investigation, being a curator of resources is one of my most important roles. In Module 13 we explored the world of virtual reality and augmented reality. For me, this was the most fun module as I had the chance to explore some cutting-edge tools that are being used in businesses, governmental organizations and educational institutions around the world. My students are very difficult to engage...a VR or AR experience may be just the thing to get them excited about a particular topic. My post on VR and AR can be accessed HERE.
One role that I operate within on a daily basis is that of the communications liaison. With this role, I am responsible for the social media presence of my school and library, as well as the maintenance of the school and library's website. Following the changemakers and core professionals within my field is one of the best ways I have to continually grow my skills and stay current with trends of school librarianship. Twitter, in particular, has kept me in the loop of new technologies (and new uses for old technology) and has allowed me to stay in touch with amazing professionals in my area.In summary, I'm so thankful for all of the lessons I've learned during this process and look forward to my continued growth and opportunities to affect positive change in my school community.
